Abstract
Acute myelofibrosis (AMF) was diagnosed in a 28-year-old male in August 1982 on
the basis of thrombocytopenia, lack of hepatosplenomegaly, fibrosis of the marrow, and
immature cells, nucleated red blood cells, and paucity of tear drop red blood cells in the
peripheral blood. At the time of initial diagnosis, 36.6% were aneuploid and the next
cytogenetic study revealed that 38.8% were aneuploid. Despite chemotherapy, there was
a rapidly fatal terminal leukemic phase with high blast cell count. A change in
karyotype may herald the appearance of a malignant clone and subsequent development
of leukemia. Therefore cytogenetic studies of all patients with myeloproliferative
disorders throughout their courses may clarify the poorly understood inter-relationship
between the transmission of the cohort of these disorders. So we reported a case of
acute myelofibrosis transmitted to acute leukemia with cytogenetic study through this
transmission and the literatures were to be reviewed briefly.
